Chapter 10 - A New Dawn

Six months later, the cold, rainy nights of Pennsylvania felt like a distant, fading bad dream.
Victoria Whitmore had been denied bail and was currently awaiting trial in a federal penitentiary, completely stripped of her wealth.
Daniel had ruthlessly liquidated his mother's side of the company, funneling millions into new charities.
True to his word, he had also purchased the Bluebird Diner, upgrading the equipment and giving Mac a massive, fully funded retirement account.
Today, the sun was shining brightly over a sprawling beachfront estate in Malibu, California.
Daniel stood on the wooden deck, wearing casual linen pants and a simple white t-shirt, completely at peace.
He watched through the glass doors as Emily sat on the plush living room rug, laughing happily.
The twin boys, now active toddlers, were successfully crawling over a mountain of colorful blocks.
Emily looked up, catching his eye through the glass, and her face broke into a radiant, beautiful smile.
She looked healthier, vibrant, and completely free from the shadows that had haunted her at the diner.
Daniel slid the glass door open, stepping inside and scooping up one of the giggling boys.
Emily stood up, carrying the other twin, and leaned into Daniel's chest.
"They are getting so fast," Emily chuckled, kissing her son's chubby cheek.
"They have the Whitmore energy," Daniel smiled, kissing Emily's forehead gently.
"But they have their mother's perfect heart."
They stood together in the sunlight, listening to the waves crash against the shore.
