Chapter 8 - The Crushing Verdict

The trial concluded much faster than anyone anticipated.

Faced with undeniable medical evidence, a rock-solid police report, and their own unhinged text messages, the defense fell apart.

Judge Henderson delivered his verdict with a tone of pure contempt.

He found Valerie guilty of aggravated battery and child endangerment.

"Your complete lack of remorse for harming a defenseless child is chilling," the judge told her directly.

He sentenced Valerie to eighteen months in a state correctional facility, followed by three years of strict probation.

Valerie collapsed into her chair, sobbing hysterically as the bailiffs approached with handcuffs.

But the nightmare for the Vance family was not over yet.

Marcus smoothly approached the bench and presented the sealed financial documents regarding the family business.

"Your Honor, we also have evidence of gross financial fraud that we are turning over to the IRS and federal prosecutors today," Marcus announced.

David’s uncle turned pale as a ghost, clutching his chest as if he were having a heart attack.

The judge accepted the folder, nodding grimly as he reviewed the first few pages.

"Consider it filed, Counselor," the judge agreed.

As Valerie was led away in chains, she looked back at David with terrified, pleading eyes.

David did not blink, did not smile, and did not look away.

He simply turned his back on her, just as he had done on the night this all began.

The vengeance was absolute.
