Chapter 6 - The Dark Secrets

Preparing for the lawsuit meant David had to dig through old family documents to establish a timeline of their toxic behavior.
He spent late nights in his home office, sifting through digital archives and old family business emails he had saved.
David’s father had passed away years ago, leaving the family hardware business in the hands of his uncle.
As David reviewed the ledgers he had kept from his brief time working there, something didn't add up.
He noticed massive, unexplained transfers from the business account to an offshore shell company.
The dates of the transfers perfectly coincided with Valerie’s luxurious European vacations and her sudden purchase of a brand-new sports car.
They weren't just abusive; they were embezzling money from the company that was supposed to be a shared family trust.
David printed out the financial records, his heart pounding with cold anticipation.
He brought the documents to Marcus the very next morning.
The lawyer looked over the highlighted numbers and let out a low whistle.
"This is felony tax evasion and corporate fraud," Marcus said, looking up in disbelief.
"If we submit this during the discovery phase of the civil suit, they are going to federal prison."
David leaned back in his chair, a slow, dangerous smile spreading across his face.
"Submit it all," David commanded.
