Chapter 10 - The Beautiful Horizon

A full year had passed since the terrible Thanksgiving dinner.

The sun was shining brightly over the expansive green lawn of David’s new house in a quiet, friendly neighborhood.

He stood on the wooden deck, holding a cold beer and watching the scene unfold in his backyard.

Leo, now six years old, was laughing uncontrollably as he chased a golden retriever puppy through the sprinklers.

The scars on Leo's neck had completely faded, and the light had fully returned to his bright blue eyes.

David’s new partner, Sarah, walked out onto the deck and wrapped her arms around his waist.

"He looks so happy," Sarah murmured, resting her chin on his shoulder.

"He is," David smiled, pulling her close.

The toxic ghosts of his past were entirely gone, locked away in prisons and buried under mountains of debt.

David had broken the cycle of generational abuse with one decisive, unwavering choice.

He had protected his son, burned down the toxic empire, and built a brand-new life from the ashes.

Leo suddenly tripped over his own feet and tumbled into the soft grass, face first.

For a split second, the yard went quiet.

Then, Leo sat up, wiped the dirt from his nose, and burst into a fit of joyful giggles.

David laughed aloud, realizing his son had finally learned true resilience.
