Chapter 6 - The Betrayal

Jail time changes people rapidly, especially spoiled women who have never faced a consequence in their lives.
By week three of being locked up without her silk sheets and daily massages, Chloe broke.
I received a call from the District Attorney's office asking me to come in for an update.
I sat in a leather chair opposite the DA, sipping a cup of lukewarm coffee.
“Your sister has decided to cooperate entirely with our office,” the DA told me with a satisfied smirk.
“She signed a full confession this morning in exchange for a slightly reduced sentence.”
Chloe had spilled absolutely everything to save her own skin.
She admitted that Richard had told her Liam was going to inherit everything and leave them broke.
Richard had given her the sedative to slip into Liam’s apple juice during the rehearsal chaos.
The plan was for Chloe to knock him into the pool, pretending he tripped because he was clumsy.
Richard was supposed to hold me back just long enough for it to look like a tragic, unavoidable accident.
“She even gave us the location of the burner phone Richard used to illegally purchase the sedatives,” the DA added.
I felt a dark sense of satisfaction wash over me.
My father had raised Chloe to be selfish and disloyal, prioritizing herself above everyone else.
Now, that exact toxic upbringing was the very thing sending him to prison.
“What kind of deal is she getting?” I asked, wanting to make sure she still paid heavily.
“She’s looking at fifteen years for attempted murder and conspiracy,” the DA replied.

“Your father is looking at life without the possibility of parole.”
I nodded slowly, realizing that this nightmare was finally reaching its end.
