Chapter 8 - The Media Storm

Their relationship did not go unnoticed. The paparazzi, fueled by the dramatic trial of Julian, caught wind that the billionaire was dating the woman who used to clean his floors.

Articles flooded the internet. The Billionaire and the Maid. A Cinderella Story or a Calculated Gold Digger?

The pressure was immense. Reporters camped outside the farmhouse. Clara, who hated the spotlight, became withdrawn. She worried that the scandal would hurt the girls, who were finally thriving in school.

"I'm a distraction, Arthur," she said one night, packing a suitcase. "They are writing horrible things about us. About me. It's affecting the company. It's affecting the girls."

Arthur took the suitcase from her hands and threw it across the room.

"Let them write," he said fiercely. "I spent my whole life worrying about what the board thought, what the press thought, what society thought. And it nearly cost me everything. You saved my children's lives. You saved my life. I will burn Sterling Holdings to the ground before I let you walk out that door."
