Chapter 4 - The Discovery

Life settled into a beautiful, unfamiliar rhythm. The estate felt like a home again. But the past wasn't finished with them.

While clearing out the back of Elena’s walk-in closet to make room for the girls’ winter clothes, Clara found a hidden lockbox. Assuming it was old jewelry, she brought it to Arthur.

Arthur forced it open in his study. Inside wasn't jewelry. It was a stack of USB drives and a handwritten note from Elena, dated three days before the crash.

Arthur, if you are reading this, Julian found out. He’s siphoning funds from the European accounts. I told him I’m going to the board on Monday. I'm scared, Arthur. He threatened the girls.

Julian. Elena’s own brother. Arthur’s Vice President and right-hand man.

The police had ruled the crash a tragic accident—a commercial van losing control on the ice. But reading the letter, Arthur’s blood turned to ice. It wasn't an accident. Julian had orchestrated the murder of his own sister to cover up massive corporate embezzlement.

Arthur looked up at Clara, who was watching him with wide, concerned eyes. "Pack a bag," he ordered, his voice trembling with a terrifying rage. "Just you and the girls. We are leaving the estate tonight."
