Chapter 4 - Radio Silence

For three weeks, my phone rang constantly.

Marcus left dozens of voicemails, his voice ranging from angry to desperate to completely broken.

I didn't answer a single one.

I needed time to heal, and he needed time to figure out his own life.

According to his voicemails, the wedding reception had ended in a massive screaming match.

Half the guests had left early when they found out what Chloe had done to me.

Chloe’s parents had threatened to sue me for ruining the atmosphere, which was utterly laughable.

I spent my days tending to my garden and packing boxes.

I had decided to officially retire and move to the mountain cabin full-time.

There was nothing left for me in Savannah.

My friends at the diner threw me a small going-away party, showering me with the love and respect my own daughter-in-law had denied me.

On my final morning in the city, I received a text from an unknown number.

"You won't get away with this, you bitter old witch."

It was Chloe, of course.

I didn't block the number, and I didn't reply.

I simply took a screenshot and forwarded it to Marcus with no caption.

Then, I turned off my phone, got into my packed SUV, and drove toward the mountains.
