Chapter 10 - The Legacy

One Year Later.
The view from my corner office on the sixtieth floor of Thorne Tower was breathtaking. The city sprawling below looked like a grid of endless possibilities.
I signed the final merger document, effectively absorbing Victor’s former firm into a minor subsidiary of Thorne Industries—just so I could immediately liquidate it and fire his old, corrupt partners.
“Hard at work?”
I looked up. Victoria was standing in the doorway, holding a toddler who was currently trying to chew on a multi-million-dollar pearl necklace. Aurora had her grandmother's fierce spirit and those unmistakable emerald eyes.
“Just finishing up the acquisition,” I smiled, taking my daughter and kissing her chubby cheek.
Victor was currently serving a ten-year sentence in a federal penitentiary. Julian was in the cell block next to him. Chloe had moved to a quiet suburb, living comfortably but silently on the trust fund we set up for her son, entirely cut off from our world.
I had transformed from a broken, terrified foster child into a formidable executive, a fierce mother, and a true Thorne. The trauma of my past hadn't destroyed me; it had tempered me into steel.
Victoria walked over and looked out the massive glass window with me. She rested her hand on my shoulder, a gesture of absolute love and pride.
“You built an empire today,” Victoria murmured.

I looked down at Aurora, who giggled and grabbed my finger.
“No,” I replied, pulling my family close. “We already have an empire. Today, I just protected it.”
