Chapter 7 - The Breach

The silence in the dark mansion was completely deafening.
Nathan stood at the top of the grand staircase, his weapon raised and his breath steady.
He heard the distinct sound of glass shattering in the kitchen downstairs.
Vance's voice crackled over the emergency radio on Nathan's belt.
"Boss, we have multiple hostiles. Kane didn't come alone. He hired mercenaries," Vance shouted over the sound of gunfire.
Marcus had used his criminal connections to bring a small army to the mountain.
He wanted his kids back, and he wanted Nathan dead.
Nathan moved silently down the hallway, checking the heavy steel door of the panic room where Rosa and the kids were hiding.
It was locked tight.
He crept toward the balcony that overlooked the main living room.
Below him, three men dressed in white winter camouflage were sweeping the area with assault rifles.
"Find the girl and the babies!" one of the men yelled.
Nathan did not hesitate.
He aimed and fired three rapid shots, dropping the closest mercenary instantly.
The other two returned fire, shattering the massive glass windows and tearing the furniture to pieces.
Nathan ducked behind a thick stone pillar as bullets chipped away the rock around him.
He was a surgeon, a man trained to save lives, but tonight, he had to become a killer.
He reloaded his weapon and waited for the firing to pause.
When he heard the click of an empty magazine, he leaned out and fired again, hitting the second man in the leg.

Suddenly, a massive figure tackled Nathan from behind, sending his gun sliding across the floor.
It was Marcus Kane.
