Chapter 10 - The Glass Heals

Six months later, the summer sun shined brightly over the Cascade Mountains.

The glass mansion had been completely repaired, looking more beautiful than ever.

The massive windows now overlooked a brand-new wooden playground built specifically for the children.

Nathan sat on the patio, drinking a cup of hot coffee and watching the scene before him.

Lily was pushing the twins, Owen and Ethan, in a double swing, laughing loudly at their happy squeals.

The heavy iron gates of the estate opened, and a car drove up the long driveway.

Sarah stepped out of the passenger seat, moving slowly but steadily.

She wore a bright summer dress, and her blond hair hid the faint, thin scar on her temple.

Marcus was currently sitting in a maximum-security prison, serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole.

He would never hurt them again.

Sarah walked over to the patio and sat down next to her brother.

She reached out and placed her hand over his.

On her wrist, she wore the old, scratched silver bracelet she had kept hidden for seven years.

"Thank you, Nathan," she said softly, leaning her head on his shoulder.

"You don't ever have to thank me, Sarah," Nathan replied, squeezing her hand.

"This is your home now, for as long as you all want to stay."

Nathan looked at the children playing in the warm sunshine, completely free from fear.

He finally realized that all the awards and money in the world meant absolutely nothing.

The beating hearts of his family were the only things that truly mattered.
