Chapter 4 - The Truth About the Patriarch

The next morning, the gray light of dawn crept through the edges of the curtains, offering no warmth.
Arthur laid out a series of blueprints and stolen architectural maps across the small circular table in the room.
He pointed to a highly secured section of our family's sprawling countryside estate.
"Your father's vault is located beneath the old greenhouse, heavily guarded by private security," Arthur stated, tracing the route with a red pen.
I felt a sickening twist in my stomach at the mention of the man who raised me.
"Did mom know?" I asked, terrified of what the answer might be.
Sofía looked away, her silence answering the question louder than any words ever could.
Our mother had chosen a life of luxury and ignorance over the safety and truth of her own daughter.
It was a profound betrayal that made me feel entirely orphaned, despite my parents still being alive.
Arthur tapped the map, drawing my attention back to the grim reality of our situation.
"We have exactly one window of opportunity tonight during the annual charity gala," he said.
Most of the security personnel would be diverted to the front of the estate to manage the high-profile guests.
We would have to infiltrate the grounds through the old servant tunnels that we used to play in as children.
I realized I was the only one who could attend the gala as a legitimate guest to create a distraction.

I had to smile at the very people who wanted my sister dead, pretending everything was perfectly normal.
It was a suicidal plan, but looking at Leo sleeping peacefully on the bed, I knew I had no other choice.
