Chapter 3 - The Safehouse of Secrets

We arrived at a rundown motel on the extreme outskirts of the city, surrounded by abandoned factories and rusted train tracks.
The neon sign buzzed erratically, casting an eerie red glow over the cracked asphalt of the parking lot.
Arthur led us into a ground-floor room that smelled intensely of stale smoke and damp carpets.
He immediately locked the deadbolt, pulled the heavy blackout curtains shut, and began checking a stack of surveillance monitors on the desk.
I sat on the edge of a sagging mattress, pulling Leo close to me to keep him warm.
Sofía paced the narrow room like a caged animal, her mind clearly racing a million miles a minute.
"They found us because I tried to access a secure bank server this morning," she admitted, rubbing her temples in frustration.
"I needed the final decryption key, and the only way to get it was to use an old family password."
I pulled the silver handle, the "pieda," from Leo's hand and held it up to the dim light.
"You sent him to me with this," I said, demanding clarity. "Why?"
Sofía stopped pacing and looked at me with a desperate, pleading expression.
"Because that handle isn't just a piece of jewelry, it's a physical master key," she explained.
Before she disappeared, she had altered the locking mechanism of our father's private vault at the estate.
The "pieda" was the only object in the world that could manually override the biometric scanners.
"I couldn't risk coming to you myself, so I taught Leo how to find you and what to say," she added, guilt flashing in her eyes.

I looked at the piece of silver, realizing it held the power to destroy the empire my father had built on blood.
We were no longer just running; we were preparing to strike back.
