Chapter 5 - The Heir's Transformation

The next few days felt like a whirlwind out of a fairy tale for Maya.
Arthur hired the best stylists in the city to come to the penthouse.
They threw away Maya's cheap, worn-out clothes and filled her massive closet with designer dresses, silk blouses, and expensive shoes.
She sat in front of a vanity mirror while professional makeup artists enhanced her natural beauty.
When she finally stood up, she barely recognized the woman staring back at her.
She looked powerful.
She looked like a true Beaumont.
Arthur walked into the room and smiled proudly.
"Tonight, I am calling a press conference," Arthur announced.
"I am going to officially name you as the sole heir to the Beaumont Hotel Empire."
Maya felt a rush of anxiety, but she nodded bravely.
"I won't let you down, Grandfather," she promised.
Outside the door, Cassandra was listening through the crack, her nails digging into her palms.
If Arthur signed those papers tonight, Cassandra would be left with nothing but a measly monthly allowance.
She hurried back to her own suite and locked the door.
She pulled out a small, unlabeled vial from her jewelry box.
It was a powerful sedative that she had purchased on the black market years ago.

"If she doesn't show up to her own coronation, the board of directors will think she's unstable," Cassandra muttered to herself.
She smiled wickedly, ready to play her final, desperate card.
