Chapter 9 - A New Flight

A year later, Elena found herself back at O'Hare International Airport.
She was flying to Tokyo for a global marketing summit. As she walked through the terminal, she felt a profound sense of peace. The heavy, nagging anxiety that had plagued the last year of her marriage was gone. She trusted her own instincts now more than ever.
She approached the priority boarding lane, handing her ticket to the agent.
“Welcome back, Ms. Vance,” the agent smiled. “You’re in 1A today.”
Elena boarded the plane and settled into the luxurious first-class pod. She ordered a glass of champagne, leaning back as the cabin began to fill.
Suddenly, a familiar voice caught her attention from the economy boarding line slowly shuffling past the first-class curtain.
“Excuse me, could you move your bag? I need to get to row 42.”

He was wearing a wrinkled off-the-rack suit, carrying a worn briefcase. He looked exhausted, older, and entirely ordinary. He was flying coach, likely on his way to some mid-level sales pitch for whatever desperate company had finally hired him.
