Chapter 5 - The Collision Course

I did not confront Mark.

Instead, I hired a private investigator to track Chloe’s daily routine.

By Tuesday afternoon, I knew exactly where she would be.

I walked into an upscale organic cafe near the luxury apartment complex I was unknowingly paying for.

Chloe was sitting at a corner table, rocking a baby stroller while sipping a green smoothie.

She was young, beautiful, and completely oblivious to the hurricane about to hit her life.

I walked over and sat directly across from her.

"Excuse me, this table is occupied. My fiancé is joining me soon," Chloe said, looking at me with annoyance.

"Your fiancé?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. "You mean Mark?"

Her face dropped in confusion. "How do you know Mark?"

I reached into my designer handbag and pulled out a manila folder, placing it gently on the table.

"I'm Sarah. I'm Mark's wife of six years, and the woman who has been paying your rent for the last twenty-four months."

Chloe went completely pale, her eyes darting between me and the folder.

"You're lying," she stammered. "Mark is a successful consultant. He told me he was divorced!"

I opened the folder, displaying our marriage certificate, the property deed, and the money trail leading directly from my bank to her landlord.

"Mark hasn't had a job in three years," I said coldly.

"He steals the childcare money I provide for my son to keep a roof over your head."

Tears immediately welled up in Chloe's eyes as she read the documents.

She wasn't a malicious homewrecker; she was just another victim of his pathological lies.

"He told me... he told me his ex-wife was a monster who wouldn't let him see his son," Chloe sobbed.

"Well, now you know the truth," I said, standing up from the table.

"I've frozen all his accounts. He is completely broke. I suggest you pack your bags before the eviction notice hits your door too."

I walked out of the cafe, leaving his carefully constructed double life in absolute ruins.
