Chapter 10 - The Beautiful New Reality

It was a warm Saturday afternoon, exactly six months since the night everything changed.
I was standing in my newly renovated kitchen, preparing a massive, delicious lunch.
There was no prime rib or imported champagne, just homemade macaroni and cheese, fresh fruit, and Leo's favorite chicken nuggets.
Leo came running into the kitchen, his face covered in paint from a massive art project we had been working on in the sunroom.
"Mommy, I'm hungry!" he giggled, wrapping his arms around my legs.
I scooped him up, kissing his messy cheek.
"Lunch is ready, my sweet boy," I smiled.
I had hired a highly qualified, loving nanny who genuinely adored Leo and took him to museums and parks while I worked.
My business was booming, my stress levels had plummeted, and I had never felt more at peace.
I didn't have to carry the emotional and financial burden of adult parasites anymore.
I sat down at the table with my son, watching him eat happily in the warmth of our secure, loving home.
No one was screaming.
No one was taking us for granted.
I had rebuilt our lives from the ashes of a toxic marriage, and the result was more beautiful than I could have ever imagined.

The free ride for them had ended, but our real journey had just begun.
