Chapter 3 - The Boardroom Coup

The morning sun poured through the wraparound glass of the Vance Development boardroom, illuminating the tense, whispering faces of the twelve senior board members. Julian sat at the head of the mahogany table, his charcoal blazer wrinkled, his eyes bloodshot from a sleepless night spent fielding calls from panicked criminal defense attorneys.

"We are facing a minor domestic misunderstanding that has temporarily impacted my liquidity," Julian lied smoothly, leaning forward with his hands planted on the polished wood. "My wife has experienced a severe emotional crisis. The allegations regarding Councilman Briggs are completely fabricated by her divorce counsel to gain leverage in custody negotiations. I assure you, the firm's assets are secure."

"Are they, Julian?"

The heavy double doors of the boardroom swung open with a definitive thud. Maya walked in, wearing a tailored navy blue Alexander McQueen power suit that radiated absolute authority. Behind her walked Victoria Sterling and two forensic accountants carrying stacks of bound, red-tabbed folders.

Julian jumped to his feet, his face draining of color. "What are you doing here, Maya? Security! Remove this woman immediately! This is a closed corporate meeting!"

Not a single security guard stepped forward. Instead, the chairman of the board, an elderly man named Arthur Pendelton who had been Maya’s grandfather’s closest friend, gestured for Maya to take the seat opposite Julian.

"I invited her, Julian," Arthur said coldly. "And considering that Mrs. Vance holds the proxy voting rights for the estate that owns fifty-one percent of our voting shares—a detail you conveniently omitted from our annual SEC filings—she has every right to address this table."

Maya didn't look at her husband. She distributed the red-tabbed folders around the table with calm, systematic precision. "Gentlemen, what you have in front of you is a complete forensic audit of the Oakridge Commercial project. Turn to page four. You will see three million dollars routed through shell companies registered to Elena Vance’s first cousin, which were then transferred directly into an offshore account used to pay Councilman Briggs for zoning variances."

The boardroom erupted into a chaotic chorus of gasps and muttered curses as the directors flipped through the undeniable paper trail. Julian sank back into his leather chair, his jaw slack as he watched his entire empire dismantle itself in less than three minutes.

"You're destroying our family, Maya!" he shouted over the noise, desperation cracking his voice. "Everything I built was for Leo!"

Maya finally turned her cold, analytical gaze toward him. "You built a house of cards on top of my grandfather's money while buying rubies for your mistress, Julian. I am simply reclaiming the foundation."
