Chapter 9 - The Final Severance

Two weeks later, the final loose ends of Chloe's mess attempted to wrap themselves around my throat. I received a letter from a sleazy, low-rent lawyer threatening to sue me for "emotional distress" and "breach of verbal contract" regarding the wedding funding on Chloe's behalf.
I didn't just reject the lawsuit; I annihilated it.
I invited Chloe’s lawyer to a mediation session. He walked in looking smug, ready to extort a settlement. I didn't speak a word. Arthur simply handed the man a copy of Chloe's illegal gambling debts, along with a draft of a countersuit we had prepared for attempted fraud and extortion.
“If your client pursues this,” Arthur told the sweating lawyer, “we will take this to a public courtroom. Her debts will become public record. Her illegal offshore activities will be forwarded to the FBI, and we will garnish whatever future wages she ever manages to earn to pay our legal fees.”

The lawyer paled, packed up his briefcase, and practically sprinted out of the room. Chloe dropped the suit the next day and, from what I heard, skipped town to avoid her creditors.
The threat to my empire was officially eliminated. I returned to my estate, walking through the grand doors, the silence no longer feeling lonely, but triumphant. I was the master of my own domain again.
