Chapter 4 - The Boardroom Ambush

The headquarters of Sterling Global occupied the top three floors of a massive glass skyscraper in downtown Manhattan.
At 10:00 AM, the grand boardroom was packed. Wall Street journalists, angel investors, and the entire executive board sat around a massive table. Julian stood at the head of the room, looking like a king in a bespoke suit. Valerie sat to his right, wearing pristine white, a triumphant smile plastered on her face.
"Today, we don't just secure our legacy," Julian projected, his voice echoing through the microphones. "We invite the world to join the Sterling family. I am calling for the final vote to approve our public merger."
"I object."
The heavy oak doors of the boardroom swung open.
The room fell dead silent. Camera shutters instantly began to click.
I walked in, the blood-red suit commanding the attention of every eye in the room. Maya flanked me on my left, carrying Hazel in a designer carrier. Marcus flanked me on my right, holding a sleek black leather briefcase.
Julian’s arrogant smile vanished. His face twisted into a mask of pure fury.
"Clara," Julian hissed, stepping away from the podium. "Security! Get this woman out of here. She has no right to interrupt a closed shareholder meeting."
Two burly security guards stepped forward, but Marcus raised a hand.
"If you lay a finger on the majority shareholder of this corporation," Marcus warned, his voice echoing off the glass walls, "I will have you both arrested for assault."
The guards froze. A collective gasp rippled through the journalists.
Valerie stood up, her mask slipping. "Majority shareholder? Julian, what is she talking about? Get this hysterical woman out of here!"
I ignored her. I walked straight down the center of the room, my heels clicking rhythmically against the marble floor, until I stood directly across the table from Julian.
"Hello, Julian," I said smoothly. "I hear you're trying to sell my company."
Julian laughed, a harsh, desperate sound. "Your company? Have you lost your mind? I built this empire!"
Marcus unlatched his briefcase and tossed a thick stack of certified documents onto the center of the glass table.
"Pursuant to the founding documents of Sterling Global, signed forty years ago by Richard Sterling and Beatrice Navarro," Marcus announced loudly, "fifty-one percent of all equity is held by the Navarro Trust. Upon Beatrice's death, that equity transferred to her niece. Clara Navarro."
Richard Sterling, sitting at the far end of the table, clutched his chest, his face turning an alarming shade of gray.
Julian looked at his father. "Dad? Tell them it’s a lie."
Richard couldn't speak. He just stared at the table.

I looked at Julian, letting a slow, venomous smile spread across my face.
"I am officially calling this vote to a close," I said, my voice echoing through the silent room. "The IPO is dead. The merger is canceled. And Julian? You're in my chair."
