Chapter 10 - Vindicated

Two weeks later, the dust finally settled.

Julian, terrified of the Volkov group and desperate for protection, pleaded guilty to treason and corporate espionage to avoid a public trial; he received forty years in a supermax facility without the possibility of parole. Sylvia, stripped of her wealth and social standing, accepted a plea deal for perjury and fraud, sobbing uncontrollably as the judge handed down a ten-year sentence in federal prison.

I didn't attend their sentencing hearings. I had a multi-billion dollar company to run.

I stood in the penthouse office, looking out over the sprawling city skyline. The sun was setting, casting a warm, golden glow over the metropolis. The heavy mahogany desk behind me was finally clear of Julian’s financial mess. The company accounts were completely secure. The dark shadows of my past had finally been dragged into the light, completely vindicating my father's unwavering faith in me.

My sleek desk phone buzzed. It was my executive assistant.

"Ms. Vance? The Secretary of Defense is holding on line one. They want to discuss the expedited renewal of the Titan Tactical government contracts."

I smiled, adjusting the collar of my tailored blazer over the faded shrapnel scar on my ribs.

"Put them through," I said.
