Chapter 6 - The Bloodline Truth

The morning after the gala, the penthouse was quiet, but a new, undeniable tension hummed between Matteo and Cameron.
Every glance they shared was heavy with the memory of that passionate, desperate kiss on the balcony.
Cameron was in the kitchen slicing fresh strawberries for Leo when Matteo walked in holding a thick manila folder.
His face was pale, his expression unreadable, and he looked entirely exhausted.
“The DNA results came back this morning from the private lab,” he said quietly, placing the folder on the marble island.
Cameron stopped cutting, the silver knife clattering softly onto the cutting board.
She wiped her hands on a towel, her heart pounding as she reached for the documents.
“Tell me,” she whispered, afraid to look at the clinical medical jargon on the pages.
“You are a 99.9% match to the hair samples we kept from Sofia,” Matteo explained gently.
“You are identical twin sisters.”
Cameron closed her eyes as a rogue tear slipped down her cheek, the revelation hitting her like a physical blow.
All those lonely nights in foster care, crying herself to sleep, wondering why nobody wanted her.
She had possessed a family all along, a sister who had shared her face, who was living a life of luxury while she suffered.
“Why didn't I know her?” Cameron choked out, her voice cracking with decades of buried grief.
Matteo stepped around the island and pulled her into a warm, protective embrace, letting her cry against his chest.
“My investigators interrogated Lorenzo’s men,” Matteo murmured into her hair.
“Your biological parents were heavily indebted to a mob syndicate when you were both born.”
He rubbed her back soothingly as he explained the dark history she had never known.
“They sold you to a black-market adoption ring to pay their debts, keeping only Sofia because they couldn't bear to lose both.”
Cameron sobbed, gripping Matteo’s shirt tightly as the cruelty of her biological parents shattered her heart.
“Sofia never knew,” Matteo promised her, his voice full of absolute certainty.
“If she had known you existed, she would have torn the world apart to find you.”
Cameron looked up at him, her beautiful eyes shining with tears and overwhelming gratitude.
“Thank you for finding the truth, Matteo,” she whispered softly.
Matteo wiped a tear from her cheek with his thumb, his gaze softening into something dangerously close to love.
“You are not a ghost anymore, Cameron,” he said firmly.

“You are blood to my son, and you are real to me.”
Their moment was interrupted by the sudden ringing of Matteo’s secure encrypted cell phone, a sound that always meant trouble.
