Chapter 8 - The Hostile Takeover

The lobby of Harrison Industries was a massive cathedral of glass, steel, and arrogant wealth.

When Ethan and I walked through the revolving doors, a blinding storm of camera flashes erupted instantly.

Reporters swarmed us like angry bees, shouting questions about the wedding, the children, and the hostile takeover.

I wore a sharply tailored red power suit, refusing to hide in the shadows ever again.

Victor Harrison was already standing near the elevators, surrounded by a dozen nervous security guards.

When he saw the massive crowd of reporters, the fake grandfatherly smile completely vanished from his face.

"What is the meaning of this circus, Ethan?" Victor hissed, marching furiously toward us.

"You are embarrassing this family on national television!"

Ethan did not back down, standing shoulder to shoulder with me in the center of the flashing cameras.

"There is no family anymore, Victor," Ethan declared, his voice echoing loudly across the marble lobby.

"There is only the board of directors, and we have called an emergency shareholder vote."

Victor let out a loud, arrogant bark of laughter, looking at us like we were foolish children.

"You do not have the shares to call a vote, you ungrateful brat!" Victor spat maliciously.

"I control fifty percent of this company, and Chloe’s family controls the rest!"

I stepped forward, relishing the satisfying sound of my red heels clicking against the cold floor.

"Actually, Victor, Chloe’s father pulled his investment the moment Ethan walked out of the wedding," I corrected him cheerfully.

"He was incredibly angry, and he was very eager to sell his shares to the highest bidder."

Victor’s face went completely pale, his arrogant posture finally beginning to crumble.

"And it turns out, Vanguard Innovations has very deep pockets," I smiled, baring all my teeth.

I pulled out a thick, legally binding folder from my briefcase and shoved it forcefully against Victor’s chest.

"I now own fifty-one percent of everything you have ever built," I whispered coldly.

Victor scrambled to open the folder, his hands shaking so violently he nearly dropped it.

He stared at the signed transfer documents, realizing his entire empire had just been legally stolen out from under him.

"You cannot do this to me!" Victor roared, looking like a trapped, desperate animal.

"I built this company from nothing, I am the king of this city!"
