Chapter 5 - The War Room

The next morning, the penthouse suite of the Vanguard tower buzzled with frantic energy.
My legal team, dressed in sharp designer suits, sat around the massive glass dining table.
"Victor Harrison is already making moves, Ms. Emma," my lead attorney, Marcus, announced gravely.
"He has filed an emergency injunction in family court, demanding immediate grand-parental visitation rights."
I took a slow sip of my black coffee, feeling completely utterly unfazed by the billionaire’s predictable tactics.
"On what grounds?" I asked smoothly, staring out at the breathtaking Seattle skyline.
"He is claiming that you are emotionally unstable and kept his heirs away from their rightful legacy maliciously," Marcus explained.
I laughed, a harsh sound that made several of the younger lawyers flinch.
"He has no idea what kind of war he just started," I murmured, setting my coffee cup down.
The heavy doors of the penthouse elevator suddenly chimed, signaling an uninvited arrival.
My security guards instantly reached for their holsters, but I raised a hand to stop them.
Ethan Harrison stepped out of the elevator, wearing a tailored charcoal suit and a look of grim determination.
"How did you bypass my lobby security?" I asked, raising a single, perfectly sculpted eyebrow.
"I bought the security company that patrols this building an hour ago," Ethan replied casually.
He walked straight past my stunned team of lawyers and stopped right in front of me.
"I am not here to fight you, Emma," Ethan said, raising his hands in a gesture of pure surrender.
"I am here to give you all the ammunition you need to destroy my father."
He reached into his breast pocket and pulled out a sleek, encrypted black hard drive.
"This contains five years of Victor's illegal wire transfers, corporate espionage, and bribes," Ethan revealed.
Marcus, my lead attorney, practically started drooling at the sight of the device.
"Why are you doing this?" I asked, searching his dark, familiar eyes for any sign of a trap.
"Because he stole five years of my children's lives," Ethan answered, his voice trembling with genuine fury.
"And because I want to burn his empire to the ground so we can build something real on the ashes."

Just then, Maya ran into the room, clutching a stuffed rabbit fiercely to her chest.
She stopped dead in her tracks, staring up at the tall man who looked exactly like her brothers.
