Chapter 9 - The Dismantling

Gabriel didn't return to Boston to rule the syndicate. He returned to dismantle it.

With Marco’s betrayal exposing the rot at the core of his organization, Gabriel initiated a massive, violent purge. But instead of seizing power, he handed the lucrative, legitimate businesses to his most loyal captains and sold the illicit territories to the highest bidder in New York.

He was buying his way out.

“You can't walk away from the mob,” a rival boss warned Gabriel during a sit-down at a warehouse.

“I just did,” Gabriel replied, sliding a briefcase containing twenty million dollars in bearer bonds across the table. “That buys my exit. If anyone comes looking for me or my family, I won't send soldiers. I will come myself, and I will leave no survivors.”

No one challenged him. They had seen what he did at the Vermont cabin. The legend of Gabriel Costa was cemented, but his reign was officially over.
