Chapter 10 - The Resonance

Two years later.
The diner in Boston had been rebuilt. It was no longer a greasy spoon; it was a beautiful, thriving family restaurant called The Silent Star, owned and operated by Clara Costa.
The bell above the door chimed, and a tall, broad-shouldered man walked in, wearing a casual sweater instead of a tailored mob suit.
Gabriel smiled, walking behind the counter and wrapping his arms around Clara’s waist, kissing the side of her neck.
“How’s the boss?” Gabriel teased.
“Exhausted,” Clara laughed, turning around to face her husband. She rested her hands on her visibly pregnant belly. “Your daughter is kicking my ribs.”
“She’s a Costa. She’s stubborn,” Gabriel grinned.
A blur of motion caught their attention. Leo, now eight years old and thriving, ran out from the back office. He didn't look like a terrified, isolated child anymore. He was confident, wearing a baseball cap backward.
He ran up to Gabriel and signed rapidly. Can I have a strawberry milkshake? Please?
Gabriel chuckled, his hands moving with absolute, practiced fluency.
Only if you help me make it for your mom first.
Leo beamed, running behind the counter to grab the ice cream scoop.

Clara watched the two most important men in her life communicating flawlessly, bound by a language of love that had saved them all. The dangerous mob boss hadn't just learned how to talk to his son; he had learned how to live.
And in that diner, filled with the hum of the milkshake blender and the warmth of a true family, the silence was finally, perfectly broken.
