Chapter 15 - The New Empire

Five years later, the sprawling gardens of Blackwood Manor were completely unrecognizable. The imposing iron gates were still there, and heavily armed guards still patrolled the perimeter, but the morbid, gothic gloom had vanished.
In the center of the lawn, a vibrant garden of lavender and white roses bloomed aggressively under the summer sun. Silas Thorne sat on a woven patio chair, wearing a casual linen shirt instead of his armor-like tailored suits. He was reviewing a stack of legitimate shipping contracts. The Thorne syndicate still existed, but its fangs had been pulled. Silas had systematically dismantled the drugs, the human trafficking, and the extortion, pivoting his massive empire entirely into legal logistics and real estate.
A squeal of pure joy interrupted his reading.
"Daddy! Look!"
Silas looked up, a bright, genuine smile breaking across his face. Five-year-old Elara came sprinting across the grass, her dark hair flying wildly behind her. She had her mother's striking emerald eyes and her father's fierce, undeniable spirit.
She crashed into his legs, holding up a small, slightly squashed white rose. "I picked it for Mommy's picture!"
"It's beautiful, little bird," Silas chuckled, scooping his daughter up into his arms and settling her onto his lap. "Your mother is going to love it."
Elara played with the vintage brass locket that now rested securely around her own neck. It had been cleaned and polished, and inside was a new picture: a photo of Silas, Clara, and a heavily photoshopped image of baby Elara, creating the family portrait they never got to take in life.
Dante stepped out onto the patio, carrying a tray with lemonade and iced tea. He had traded his tactical vests for a sharp suit, acting more as a favored uncle than a bodyguard these days.
"The mayor called again, Boss," Dante smirked, setting the tray down. "He's asking if you're going to attend the charity gala next week."

"Tell him we'll be there," Silas replied, kissing the top of Elara's head. "We have a legacy to uphold."
Silas looked out over his peaceful estate, holding his daughter tightly. The myth of the soulless mob boss was finally dead, buried right alongside his corrupt family. In its place stood a father, entirely unbroken, stepping forever into the light.
