Chapter 14 - The Final Goodbye

Silas stood frozen in the dingy motel room. The image of Clara—gentle, beautiful Clara, who had mocked him for trembling while holding a wedding ring—fighting off armed mercenaries with a scalpel while bleeding to death, was almost too much to bear. She had died a warrior, protecting their child with her very last breath.

"She told me to give you a message," Evelyn whispered, reaching into her pocket. She pulled out a small, blood-stained silver ring. Clara's wedding band.

Silas stepped forward, his hand shaking as he took the ring.

"She said to tell you," Evelyn continued softly, "that you don't have to live in the dark anymore. She said you have a reason to step into the light now."

Silas closed his eyes, gripping the ring so tightly the metal bit into his palm. He had spent his entire life building an empire of shadows. He had thought Clara was his only tether to humanity, and when she died, he embraced the darkness completely. But Clara hadn't just given him a daughter; she had given him a mandate to change.

"Take the money, Evelyn," Silas said, his voice thick with emotion. "There is a private jet waiting for you at the airstrip. It will take you anywhere in the world. You have the protection of the Thorne family for the rest of your life."

Silas turned and walked out of the motel room. The Boston air felt different today. It was crisp, cold, but clear. The crushing, suffocating weight that had rested on his chest for two years was finally lifting.

He climbed into the back of the SUV, where Dante was waiting. Silas looked at the blood-stained ring, then carefully slipped it onto his pinky finger, right next to his own wedding band.

"Back to the manor, Boss?" Dante asked quietly.

"Yes, Dante," Silas replied, looking out the window at the city he ruled. "Take me home to my daughter."
