Chapter 4 - The True Heir

High above the financial district of Zurich, in a glass-walled boardroom overlooking the pristine lake, Seraphina Vance-Sterling stood by the window. The vintage canvas briefcase rested on a massive ebony conference table.
She was no longer the quiet, demure wife in a stained silk dress. She wore a perfectly tailored crimson power suit, her hair pulled back into a sleek, unforgiving style. She looked like a conqueror.
Behind her, the massive double doors opened. An elderly man with piercing gray eyes and a silver cane walked in. Arthur Sterling. The undisputed titan of European finance.
"You played the long game, Sera," Arthur said, his voice gravelly but full of immense pride. "Three years in the trenches with those absolute parasites."
Seraphina turned, a cool, detached smile playing on her lips. "I had to be certain, Grandfather. I needed to see if there was a shred of redemption in Julian. A shred of genuine competence in his firm. You were right. They are nothing but vampires feeding on the Sterling infrastructure."
"And the liquidation?" Arthur asked, taking a seat at the head of the table.
"Proceeding flawlessly," Seraphina replied, opening her laptop. "I cut off their oxygen at midnight. By noon, the Vance Development Firm will be insolvent. By sunset, their personal assets will be seized to cover the deficit."
Arthur chuckled softly. "You know, when you insisted on hiding your identity to marry him, I told you it was a fool's errand. You thought you could save him."

"I was naive," Seraphina admitted, tracing the rim of her coffee cup. "I thought love could cure arrogance. But the strike to my face last night? That cured me. They wanted a beggar to abuse. They didn't realize they were whipping the landlord."
She pressed a button on her keyboard. "Send the press release. Let the world know exactly who owns the Vance legacy."
