Chapter 19 - The New Foundation

One year to the day after the infamous ballroom slap, Seraphina stood at a podium in front of the transformed Vance estate.
The dark, imposing mansion had been gutted and redesigned with open glass, bright light, and modern architecture. It was now the Sterling Center for Female Entrepreneurs.
Hundreds of guests were gathered on the pristine lawn. Elias Thorne stood in the front row, smiling proudly. Arthur Sterling sat in a wheelchair beside him, looking on with quiet satisfaction.
"A year ago," Seraphina spoke into the microphone, her voice carrying across the very gardens she used to quietly walk alone, "I left this property with nothing but a canvas briefcase. I was told that I was a beggar. I was told that my pedigree was filth."
She paused, looking out over the crowd. The media cameras flashed.
"They were wrong," she continued. "Pedigree is not defined by the name you inherit. It is defined by the resilience you forge in the dark. This building used to be a monument to debt, arrogance, and cruelty. Today, it is a monument to the future."
She raised a pair of golden scissors and cut the ceremonial ribbon. The crowd erupted into thunderous applause.
As she stepped down from the podium, Elias approached her.

"A spectacular speech," he murmured, handing her a glass of real champagne.
"A necessary one," Seraphina replied, clinking her glass against his. "The past is officially dead."
