Chapter 3 - Unraveling the Nightmare

For three days, Clara barely left the suite, treating it as a gilded cage. But true to his word, Julian did not force his presence upon her. He slept in the guest wing. Maria brought her meals, drew her baths, and spoke to her with a gentle warmth Clara hadn't experienced since she was a child.

Downstairs, Julian was tearing Boston apart.

He sat in the war room of the estate, surrounded by his capos and hackers. The screens on the wall displayed Arthur Sterling’s financial records, property deeds, and charity foundations.

"Dig deeper," Julian snarled, pacing the length of the room. "Arthur presented himself as a saint. A grieving widower who raised a perfect daughter. I want to know who covered up the abuse. I want the names of the doctors he paid off. I want the staff who kept their mouths shut."

Dante, Julian’s second-in-command, handed him a manila folder. "We found the private physician. Dr. Aris. He’s been receiving massive, untraceable deposits from Arthur’s offshore accounts for a decade. He treated Clara for 'equestrian accidents' and 'clumsy falls'."

Julian’s eyes turned black with lethal intent. "Bring Dr. Aris to the warehouse. He’s going to have a very long conversation with me tonight."

Upstairs, Clara finally found the courage to open her door. She wandered the massive, silent halls of the estate. She expected guards to yell at her. Instead, the heavily armed men simply bowed their heads respectfully as she passed. "Good afternoon, Mrs. Rossi," one of them murmured.

She wasn't a prisoner. She was a ghost walking among wolves, but for the first time in her life, the wolves were guarding her door.
