Chapter 10 - A New Dawn

One Year Later.

The summer breeze rolling off Lake Michigan was warm, carrying the scent of blooming jasmine across the Rossi estate.

Clara stood on the balcony of the master suite, leaning against the stone railing. She was wearing a backless silk sundress. The scars were still there—they would always be there—but they were no longer a source of shame. They were the markings of a survivor, kissed by the sun.

Down in the courtyard, Julian was playing catch with a massive German Shepherd they had rescued a few months prior.

The Rossi syndicate was transforming. The violent, bloody businesses were being systematically dismantled, replaced by legitimate real estate ventures and logistics companies. Julian was stepping out of the shadows, building an empire that didn't require blood to sustain it.

He looked up, spotting Clara on the balcony. Even from a distance, the sheer adoration in his slate-gray eyes was palpable. He handed the dog’s toy to one of the guards and walked inside.

A minute later, Julian stepped onto the balcony, wrapping his strong arms around Clara from behind, pulling her flush against his chest. He pressed a soft kiss to her bare shoulder, right over one of the oldest, deepest scars.

"What are you thinking about?" Julian murmured against her skin.

"I was thinking about my wedding day," Clara smiled, leaning back into his embrace. "I was thinking about how terrified I was of the monster I thought I was marrying."

Julian chuckled, a deep, rumbling sound that vibrated against her back. "I was a monster, Clara."

"No," she said, turning around in his arms and looking up into his eyes. "You were a man grieving his sister. And you became the man who saved my life."

Julian reached up, cupping her face, his thumb gently tracing her jawline. The darkness that had plagued him for so long had been entirely eclipsed by the light she brought into his world.

"You saved me right back, Mrs. Rossi," Julian whispered.

He leaned down and kissed her. It wasn't a kiss of possession, or a kiss of revenge. It was a kiss built on a foundation of fierce, unbreakable love. The past was dead and buried in the cold earth, but their future was brilliant, untamed, and entirely theirs.
