Chapter 10 - The View from the Top

One year later.

The sun was setting over the Manhattan skyline, painting the clouds in brilliant shades of orange, pink, and deep purple.

The rooftop garden of Sterling Tower was filled with hundreds of guests—business leaders, politicians, journalists, and close friends—all celebrating the tenth anniversary of Sterling Financial.

Laughter and soft jazz music floated through the warm evening air.

Caroline stood near the glass perimeter railing, looking out over the glittering lights of the city she called home.

She wore a breathtaking crimson gown, her confidence radiant, her spirit untamed.

Margaret walked up beside her, wearing a stunning silver dress, looking every bit the queen of Manhattan society she was born to be.

"A long way from that snowy night in January," Margaret remarked, taking a sip of sparkling water.

"A long way indeed," Caroline smiled, putting her arm around her mother's shoulders. "Do you ever miss it?"

Margaret raised an eyebrow, amused. "Miss cleaning the salt off your lobby floors?"

"No," Caroline laughed softly. "Miss the quiet before the world knew our story."

Margaret looked out at the vast skyline, her eyes reflecting the glowing lights of the city below.

"The quiet was a lie, Caroline," Margaret said thoughtfully. "It was filled with secrets, treason, and hidden pain. I’d trade a thousand quiet nights for one true day with you."

Caroline squeezed her mother's shoulder tightly.

"We survived the storm, Mom."

"We didn't just survive it, my dear," Margaret said, holding her glass high toward the setting sun. "We conquered it."

Below them, the city buzzed with millions of lives, stories, and dreams.

But up here, sixty floors above the noise and the madness, two women stood united—bound not just by blood, but by an unbreakable bond forged in the coldest winter, now shining brightly in the golden light of their true legacy.
