Chapter 4 - The Boardroom Ambush
At exactly 10:00 AM, Caroline walked into the glass-walled boardroom.
Twelve of Wall Street’s most ruthless investors sat around the massive mahogany table.
David Vance was already there, looking remarkably composed in a fresh shirt his assistant had brought him.
Amanda sat in the corner, trying to look invisible but failing miserably.
As Caroline took her seat at the head of the table, David stood up.
"Ladies and gentlemen of the board," David began, his voice dripping with fake sorrow.
"I have called this emergency meeting to discuss a critical matter regarding our CEO's mental health and legal standing."
The board members murmured, looking confused and concerned.
Caroline simply leaned back in her leather chair, sipping her coffee in silence.
"I have evidence," David continued, projecting a document onto the large screen.
"That Caroline Sterling has secretly transferred forty percent of her shares into an unverified family trust."
Gasps echoed around the room.
"Furthermore," David lied smoothly, "she has been erratic, locking staff in rooms and making paranoid accusations."
One of the older board members frowned. "Is this true, Caroline?"
Before Caroline could speak, David motioned to Amanda.
"Her own sister will testify that Caroline has been under severe psychological distress," David said.
Amanda stood up, her voice shaky.
"It's true," Amanda whispered. "She... she needs help. She isn't fit to run this empire anymore."
David pulled out a heavy legal binder.
"According to our corporate bylaws, a vote of no confidence is required immediately," he stated.
"I am stepping in as interim CEO, effective right now."
He looked at Caroline, a smug, triumphant smirk on his face.
He thought he had outsmarted the great Caroline Sterling.
He thought his forged signature and fake documents were bulletproof.
Caroline slowly placed her coffee cup on the table.

"Are you finished, David?" she asked calmly.
