Chapter 8 - The Confrontation at the Office

Two days later, driven by sheer desperation and blind fury, Julian marched into the lobby of the Vance Tower downtown.

He looked disheveled, his hair unbrushed, his designer suit wrinkled from sleeping on the streets and cheap motel lobbies.

He bypassed the security turnstiles by tailgating a delivery courier, sprinting directly toward the private elevators before anyone could stop him.

He swiped a stolen visitor pass he had scavenged from a lobby desk, punching the top floor button for the executive suites.

When the elevator doors dinged and slid open, he stormed down the hallway toward Clara’s private corner office.

Clara’s new executive assistant stood up immediately, trying to block his path.

"Mr. Sterling, you cannot enter—"

Julian shoved past her with a furious snarl, throwing open the heavy mahogany double doors.

Clara was sitting behind her massive oak desk, reviewing corporate portfolios with an expression of calm indifference.

She didn't even flinch as Julian slammed his hands down onto her desk, leaning over with wild, bloodshot eyes.

"Are you insane?" Julian screamed, spittle flying from his lips.

"Ruining my company? Issuing public press releases? You've destroyed my entire life over a stupid personal grievance!"

Clara slowly laid down her gold-plated pen, folded her hands neatly on the desk, and looked up at him as if he were a minor annoyance tracked in on the bottom of her shoe.

"You destroyed your own life, Julian," Clara stated, her voice quiet, steady, and entirely devoid of emotion.

"I simply stopped funding your fraudulent illusion."

"You could have ended it quietly!" Julian hissed, leaning closer, his voice dropping to a desperate, threatening whisper.

"We could have parted ways without a public bloodbath! But you wanted to crush me completely!"

Before Clara could reply, the office doors swung open behind him.

Two large, uniformed security officers strode into the room, flanked by Miller from the legal team.

"Mr. Sterling, you are violating a permanent restraining order issued by the Cook County Court forty-eight hours ago," Miller announced smoothly, holding up a legal document.

"Step away from Miss Vance immediately, or we will use physical force."
