Chapter 7 - The Press Release

By eight o'clock the following morning, the business and society sections of every major newspaper and digital news outlet in Chicago exploded with a bombshell headline.

STERLING STARTUP COLLAPSES AS VANCE FAMILY PULLS ALL FUNDING; HIGH-PROFILE WEDDING CANCELED.

The digital articles featured a crisp, official statement released directly by Vance & Associates.

It explicitly detailed that the engagement between Clara Vance and Julian Sterling had been terminated due to irreconcilable breaches of personal and fiduciary trust.

It also subtly hinted at ongoing financial audits surrounding Julian's business practices.

Social media went into absolute overdrive.

Influencers, former college acquaintances, and business rivals who had spent months kissing up to Julian suddenly rushed to delete their congratulatory posts and distance themselves from his toxic fallout.

Julian woke up that morning shivering on a park bench near Lake Michigan, having spent the night huddled in his ruined designer suit.

His phone began buzzing incessantly with notifications, news alerts, and frantic messages from junior employees demanding to know why the office doors were locked by armed bailiffs and why their paychecks had bounced.

He tapped on a news alert, his eyes widening in sheer horror as he read the headline detailing his total and utter destruction.

Panic surged through his veins, hot and suffocating.

He tried to dial his primary PR manager, but the call was immediately blocked.
