Chapter 6 - The Unraveling

Back inside the penthouse, the silence was absolute.
Clara walked over to the glass table, picked up her engagement ring, and placed it safely inside her coat pocket.
She felt no sorrow, no lingering attachment to the past two years of lies.
Instead, she felt an overwhelming sense of lightness, as if a massive, toxic weight had finally been lifted from her shoulders.
Arthur Vance walked out from the study area, holding a final batch of printed financial audits.
"The asset freeze is holding steady, Clara," Arthur reported, offering her a reassuring, paternal smile.

Clara took the papers, her eyes scanning the columns of numbers with sharp, analytical precision.
"File those fraudulent transfers directly with the district attorney's office tomorrow morning, Arthur," Clara instructed calmly.
"I don't just want him broke. I want him held legally accountable for every single crime he committed while trying to rob my family."
"Consider it done," Arthur nodded, admiring the fierce resolve in his niece's eyes.
"Your father would have been immensely proud of how you handled this tonight."
"My father trusted him because he was blind to how ambitious small-minded people operate," Clara replied softly, setting the papers down.
"I won't make that same mistake twice."

She walked over to the floor-to-ceiling windows, looking out at the glittering skyline of the city where Julian thought he had won everything.
Little did he know, the game was already over, and he had lost before he even made his final move.
