Chapter 19 - The New Vows

One year to the day after the snowy night in Mario’s Bakery, Dante told Clara to pack a bag.
He didn't tell her where they were going. Enzo drove them to O’Hare airport, where Dante’s private jet was waiting. Three hours later, they landed in a sun-drenched private estate in Tuscany, Italy.
“What is all this?” Clara asked, looking out over the rolling vineyards and the ancient stone villa.
“A year ago, I forced you into a marriage of convenience to save your brother,” Dante said, taking her hand as they walked through the grand doors. “We signed papers in a sterile magistrate’s office. You didn't get a wedding. You didn't get a choice.”
He led her into the villa's courtyard. It was covered in thousands of white roses, glowing with candlelight. A priest stood at a small altar, and Leo was waiting in a tailored tuxedo, grinning ear to ear.
Clara gasped, covering her mouth with her hands.
“I want to do it right,” Dante said, turning to face her, his dark eyes filled with absolute, unfiltered love. “I want you to choose me, Clara. Not because you’re desperate. Not because you’re scared. But because you love me.”
Clara looked at the man who had torn apart the city to keep her safe, the man who worshipped the very ground she walked on, the monster who had become her guardian angel.
“I choose you,” Clara wept, throwing her arms around his neck. “I will always choose you.”
Under the Tuscan stars, with her little brother holding the rings, Clara and Dante renewed their vows. This time, there were no contracts. There was no fear. There was only a promise, sealed with a kiss that tasted like forever.

“You’re mine, Clara,” Dante whispered against her lips as the priest pronounced them husband and wife.
“Body and soul, Dante,” she replied.
