Chapter 9 - Rebuilding

Two months after the sentencing, the divorce was finalized.
I kept the house, the cars, my pension, and every single cent of my investments. Mark's name was entirely erased from my life.
I decided I didn't want to live in the massive, echoey house anymore. It held too many memories of a man I never really knew. I sold the estate for a massive profit, packed up my things, and bought a beautiful, modern cabin on the edge of a lake, three hours away from the city.
I needed peace. I needed quiet.
But I also realized something else. During those five months of tracking Mark, building the case, and outsmarting everyone, I had felt alive. I had missed the thrill of the investigation, the satisfaction of snapping the pieces of a puzzle together.
