Chapter 6 - The Digital Trap

Nathan spent the next three hours writing a highly sophisticated piece of malware.

"This is a phishing email designed to look exactly like an alert from the Cayman Islands central banking authority," Nathan explained.

"When Marcus clicks the link to check his offshore funds, the malware will copy his screen and send us his login credentials."

"But how do we get him to click it?" I asked.

"He is too smart to fall for a random spam email."

"We make it look urgent," I suggested, an idea forming in my mind.

"Send an anonymous email to the executive board, claiming there is an active HR leak."

"Marcus will intercept it, panic, and immediately check his hidden funds to make sure they are safe."

Nathan nodded in agreement and executed the plan.

We sat in the car, our eyes glued to the laptop screen.

Ten minutes passed.

Then twenty.

Suddenly, a notification pinged on Nathan's screen.

"He took the bait," Nathan announced triumphantly.

The screen mirrored what Marcus was currently looking at on his office computer.

We watched in real-time as Marcus logged into a highly secure offshore banking portal.

He transferred five million dollars from the fake vendor accounts into a private cryptocurrency wallet.

"Gotcha," Nathan whispered, hitting the record button.

"He is moving the money because he knows the board is getting suspicious."

Just as we thought we had enough evidence, Marcus opened a new document.

It was a flight itinerary for a private jet leaving for a non-extradition country in two hours.

He wasn't just hiding the money.

He was fleeing the country.

"We have to stop him," I said, unbuckling my seatbelt.

"If he gets on that plane, I will spend the rest of my life in jail for his crimes."
