Chapter 4 - The Shark in a Suit

The expensive law offices of Evelyn Vance were located completely at the top of a towering glass skyscraper in the financial district.

Evelyn was notoriously known throughout the entire city as an absolutely ruthless, bloodthirsty corporate litigator who specialized in high-asset fraud.

I sat completely frozen in a modern leather chair as Evelyn meticulously reviewed the documents from my father’s journal.

She was a highly intimidating woman in a sharp crimson suit, her piercing gray eyes missing absolutely nothing on the pages.

"Your husband and his mother are not just greedy, Sarah; they are completely and entirely stupid," Evelyn stated flatly, closing the journal with a loud snap.

"They have left a massive, easily traceable digital footprint stretching across three different interstate banking institutions."

I leaned entirely forward, gripping the edge of her massive mahogany desk until my knuckles turned stark white.

"Can we completely stop the bank from officially foreclosing on the house?" I asked, my voice completely tight with anxiety.

Evelyn let out a sharp, highly predatory laugh that completely echoed off the glass walls of her office.

"We aren't just going to stop the foreclosure; we are going to completely dismantle their entire lives piece by piece," she promised with a chilling smile.

She rapidly began outlining a highly aggressive, multi-tiered legal strategy that completely made my head spin with its sheer ruthlessness.

"First, we absolutely do not let them know that you have discovered the extent of the fraud or the existence of the trust," Evelyn instructed firmly.

"You need to completely play the role of the desperate, broken wife who is entirely willing to negotiate a peaceful surrender."

I completely hated the idea of returning to that toxic house, but I absolutely understood the highly tactical necessity of the plan.

"We need undeniable, physical proof of the digital forgeries directly from his personal computer to guarantee federal prison time," she explained.

Evelyn completely slid a tiny, innocent-looking silver USB drive across the polished surface of the expensive desk.

"This is highly advanced, military-grade mirroring software," she whispered, her eyes locking intensely onto mine.

"You plug this directly into his laptop for exactly three minutes, and it will completely clone every single encrypted file he has."

I stared at the tiny metal drive, completely realizing that taking it meant crossing a massive, irreversible line into active corporate espionage.

"If he completely catches me doing this, he will absolutely destroy the laptop and claim I am crazy," I warned her softly.

"Then you absolutely must ensure that he does not catch you," Evelyn replied coldly, leaning back in her heavy leather chair.

I reached out slowly and completely closed my fingers tightly around the cold, heavy metal of the flash drive.

I was entirely ready to completely play the ultimate game of deception with the absolute masters of the craft.
