Chapter 9 - The Gavel Drops

It was Claire. She had driven up from the city, likely tipped off by Sterling that everything was falling apart.

She ran into the house, screaming Greg's name, only to be immediately tackled and handcuffed by Marcus and the local deputies.

"I didn't do anything!" Claire shrieked, thrashing against the officers. "I'm a victim! He manipulated me!"

I walked out of the study, holding the burned ledger. I looked at my sister, feeling nothing but a profound emptiness.

"We have the emails, Claire," I said quietly. "We have the bank transfers. We know about the pills you swapped in Mom's medicine cabinet."

Claire froze, her screams dying in her throat. She looked at me, realizing the absolute finality of the situation. The syndicate wouldn't protect her. Richard Sterling wouldn't protect her. She was going to federal prison.

"Take them both," I told Marcus. "And call the FBI field office in Vegas. We're taking down the syndicate tonight."
