Chapter 5 - The Ambush

Connor Kensington was not a smart man.

He was a violent coward who relied entirely on his mother's money to protect him.

With his reputation ruined and his mother distracted by the cyber-attack, Connor decided to take matters into his own hands.

He hired a private investigator to track down our location.

The investigator was good enough to trace our armored SUV to the perimeter of Naval Station Norfolk.

But he wasn't good enough to penetrate the base's security.

Connor decided to wait outside the main gates in his luxury sports car, hoping to catch Maya leaving.

He waited for two days.

On the third day, I needed to go to the naval intelligence headquarters on base.

I left Maya secured in the house with two armed guards and drove my personal vehicle toward the exit.

As I pulled out of the gates, I noticed the black sports car tailing me aggressively.

I recognized the license plate immediately.

Connor was foolish enough to try and follow a trained military intelligence officer.

I didn't speed up.

I didn't try to lose him.

Instead, I casually drove toward a deserted industrial park located a few miles from the base.

Connor followed closely, completely unaware that he was driving into a trap.

I pulled my car into an empty warehouse lot and put it in park.

Connor slammed on his brakes, blocking my car from behind.

He jumped out of his vehicle, his face twisted in rage, holding a heavy metal tire iron.

"Where is she?!" he screamed, marching toward my driver's side window.

I calmly opened my door and stepped out, standing completely still.

"You are making a very large mistake, Connor," I warned him.

"I am going to beat the location out of you, you old bitch!" he yelled, raising the weapon.

He didn't even notice the three black vans parked in the shadows of the warehouse.

Before he could swing the iron, the side doors of the vans slid open.

Twelve heavily armed Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) agents poured out.

They surrounded Connor in a matter of seconds, their assault rifles raised and aimed squarely at his chest.

"Drop the weapon and get on the ground!" the lead agent roared.

Connor froze, his eyes darting frantically around the circle of laser sights pointed at him.

The metal tire iron slipped from his trembling hands and clattered onto the concrete.

He dropped to his knees, bursting into pathetic tears.

"Please, don't shoot!" he sobbed.

I walked up to him and looked down at his weeping face.

"You are being arrested for the attempted assault of a federal officer," I said coldly.

May you like

"Have fun in federal prison, Connor."

They slapped the cuffs on him and dragged him away.
