Chapter 4 - The Cyber Offensive

Beatrice Kensington was a creature of control, and she was rapidly losing it.
She called an emergency meeting with her board of directors to stop the financial bleeding.
She thought her wealth was protected behind ironclad firewalls and expensive legal teams.
But she had never faced a military cyber warfare specialist.
While her lawyers scrambled to issue cease-and-desist letters to the press, I dug deeper into her digital life.
I found the hidden server located in the basement of her sprawling estate.
It was the server she used to store blackmail material on local politicians.
She used these files to force judges and police chiefs to look the other way when her sons broke the law.
I systematically copied every single file, photograph, and encrypted document.
Then, I wiped her server completely clean.
I left a single, digital calling card on her empty hard drive.
An anchor.
Back at the safehouse, Maya was sitting on the couch, watching the news.
"Mom, they are saying Connor might be indicted," Maya said, a glimmer of hope in her voice.
"He will be," I assured her.
"But we need to cut off the head of the snake first."
I took the blackmail files and sorted them by political relevance.
I bypassed the corrupted local police and went straight to the federal level.
I forwarded the evidence to the FBI's public corruption task force.
I made sure to include the exact bank routing numbers Beatrice used to pay off the local district attorney.
That afternoon, Beatrice tried to access her server to pull dirt on the journalist who exposed Connor.
Instead of her files, she found my anchor icon.
I received a furious text message on my secure phone ten minutes later.
"What did you do?" the message read.
"I took away your leverage," I typed back.
"You are going to regret crossing me," Beatrice threatened.
"I am going to destroy your naval career and put you in a cage."
I laughed out loud in the quiet of the safehouse.
She still thought she was in control.
She didn't realize that federal agents were already drafting search warrants for her home.

The fortress she had spent decades building was quietly crumbling beneath her feet.
And she was entirely powerless to stop it.
