Chapter 2 - The Tracker

The car sped through the winding suburban streets, far away from the medical district.
I stayed on the floorboard, my heart hammering against my ribs like a trapped bird.
"You can sit up now," Dr. Reed said, her eyes constantly checking the rearview mirror.
I dragged myself up onto the leather seat, gasping for air.
"Where are we going?" I asked, my voice trembling uncontrollably.
"To a private lab owned by a colleague I trust," she replied, gripping the steering wheel tightly.
"I need to run that bloodwork immediately to find out exactly what he is dosing you with."
My mind raced back to all the times Aaron had insisted on giving me my "special vitamins."
He always used a syringe, claiming it was the fastest way to get nutrients to the baby.
"Why would he do this?" I cried, tears finally spilling over my cheeks.
"He is a doctor, he is supposed to save lives!"
Dr. Reed sighed, her expression grim and professional.
"Medical abuse is real, Anna, especially among those who think they are gods."
"The port I saw on the ultrasound is highly advanced, military-grade technology."
"It is not just for infusions; it has a metallic signature that suggests it might be a biometric tracker."
I froze, the blood draining completely from my face.
"A tracker?" I whispered, looking down at my swollen stomach.
"He knows exactly where I am?"
Dr. Reed checked the mirror again, her jaw clenching tightly.
"I have a signal jammer in the car, I turned it on the second we left the alley."
"But the moment we step out of this vehicle, he will have our location."
"We need to get that port removed, today."
Panic clawed at my throat, making it impossible to swallow.
"Can you do it?" I begged, grabbing her arm.
"It requires surgery, Anna, and you are seven months pregnant."
"It is highly risky, but leaving it inside you is a guaranteed death sentence for your autonomy."
Suddenly, Dr. Reed’s cell phone rang, echoing loudly in the tense silence of the car.
The caller ID displayed a blocked number.
She ignored it, but then a text message popped up on the dashboard screen.
May you like
It was from Aaron.
The message read: "You cannot hide what belongs to me, Dr. Reed."
