Chapter 6 - The Perfect Cover

The next morning, Julian announced over a breakfast of poached eggs and imported caviar that we were hosting a gala.
"The media needs to see you happy and glowing, Clara, to completely dispel any lingering rumors about your accident," he stated smoothly.
He didn't ask for my opinion; he simply dictated the schedule, the guest list, and the exact designer gown I would wear.
The charity gala was going to take place right here at the estate on Saturday night, pulling hundreds of influential people into our home.
As he spoke, I realized this massive, chaotic event was the absolute perfect cover for my final escape plan.
With hundreds of wealthy guests, catering staff, and valets swarming the property, his private security guards would be completely distracted.
I retreated to the bathroom after breakfast, turning the shower on and frantically dialing Sarah's number on the hidden phone.
"The gala is on Saturday, Sarah, and I have the financial documents and the USB drive," I whispered, my voice trembling with adrenaline.
"Perfect, my brother owns a boutique catering company, and they were just hired as extra staff for the Vance event," she replied.
Sarah's plan was brilliantly simple and incredibly dangerous, relying entirely on my ability to act normal.
She was going to infiltrate the mansion disguised as a waitress, wearing the standard black uniform and a face mask.
During the height of the party, I was to slip the documents to her in the downstairs powder room.
Once Sarah safely left the property with the evidence, she would immediately drive it to a contact she had at the FBI.
As soon as I received the confirmation text that the feds were moving in, I would trigger the fire alarm and slip out in the ensuing chaos.
"Are you sure you can run in your condition, Clara?" Sarah asked, genuine worry lacing her tone.
"I won't just run, Sarah, I will fly if I have to," I promised her, hanging up the phone and staring at my reflection.

The terrified, submissive wife Julian thought he owned was completely gone, replaced by a mother ready to burn his empire to the ground.
I walked out of the bathroom with a calm smile, ready to play the role of my lifetime.
