Chapter 10 - The Rebirth

Six months passed, bringing the warmth of spring to Boston.

Julian had pled guilty to avoid a lengthy trial and was sentenced to fifteen years in federal prison.

Victoria was serving five years in a minimum-security facility, entirely abandoned by her wealthy friends.

Clara and I never looked back.

With the divorce finalized, Clara received a massive settlement from the legitimate assets Julian was forced to liquidate.

But instead of living a life of luxury, Clara used the money to buy the building that housed The Hearth.

We renovated the shop, expanding the seating area and adding a beautiful patio, while keeping the humble, comforting soul of the bakery intact.

Marcus became our unofficial head of security, spending his mornings eating free blueberry crumble in the corner booth.

One bright Tuesday morning, Clara walked out from the kitchen, wiping flour from her forehead.

She looked radiant, healthy, and entirely free.

"Mom, the sourdough is ready," she smiled, placing a warm, crusty loaf on the counter.

I looked at my daughter, my heart swelling with immense pride.

"It looks perfect, Clara," I said.

We had faced the monsters of the upper class, and we had beaten them with nothing but courage and truth.

The Sterlings thought they held all the power because they had money.
