Chapter 10 - The Sterling Legacy

One year later.
The grand foyer of the Sterling mansion was bathed in warm, golden sunlight. The cold, tasteless modern art Evelyn had purchased was gone, replaced by the beautiful, classic portraits my mother had originally chosen. The marble floors had been torn out, revealing the rich, dark mahogany hardwood beneath.
I stood by the grand staircase, wearing a sleek black dress, holding a glass of champagne.
The mansion was filled with people—friends, loyal board members, and trusted employees. We were celebrating the most profitable quarter in Sterling Logistics' history.
The front door opened, and a hush fell over the crowd.
My father walked in. He wasn't in a wheelchair. He wasn't crawling. He walked tall and proud, using only a silver-tipped cane for balance. The room erupted into applause. He smiled warmly, shaking hands and thanking everyone who had stood by us during the darkest times.
He caught my eye across the room and walked over to me.
"You threw a hell of a party, Madam CEO," he smiled, clinking his glass against mine.
"Only the best for the Chairman of the Board," I grinned.
"I drove past the county jail today," Arthur said quietly, looking out the window toward the city skyline. "I didn't feel anything. No anger, no fear. Just... nothing."
"That's because they are nothing, Dad," I said, putting my arm around him. "They are ghosts. We are the ones who are still here."
I looked around the beautiful, restored home, listening to the laughter and music echoing off the walls. I had left this house a powerless, heartbroken girl. I had returned a weapon forged in corporate fire. I had saved my father, destroyed the monsters who tortured him, and reclaimed our legacy.
Evelyn had told my father to crawl.

But looking at the empire we had rebuilt, I knew one undeniable truth.
The Sterlings never crawl. We soar.
