Chapter 8 - The Truth Comes to Light

The man with Arthur was Agent Miller, the FBI contact from Philadelphia. Within the hour, the quiet Scranton street was swarming with federal vehicles.
They arrested the men on the kitchen floor. At the shipping yard, local police—under strict federal supervision to bypass the corrupt chief—pulled Vance and his guards from the rubble of the locker room. Vance survived, but with two broken legs and a shattered empire.
That evening, Arthur sat at the kitchen table while a paramedic patched up his shoulder. Chloe sat across from him, holding his uninjured hand.
Agent Miller walked in, holding the digital hard drive from the lockbox. “It’s a goldmine. Money laundering, illegal weapons, extortion. Vance is going away for the rest of his natural life. And the local police chief is in custody, too.”
Miller looked at Chloe. “And I saw the internal memos regarding Marcus Hayes. Vance documented the murder, referring to it as ‘neutralizing the leak.’ We are officially reopening the case. Marcus will be cleared of all negligence, and he’ll be recognized as the whistleblower who brought this cartel down.”
Chloe broke down in tears. A decade of running, of hiding in the shadows, of working herself to the bone while carrying the secret of the man she loved—it was finally washing away.

Arthur looked at his daughter, tears pooling in his tired eyes. “I am so sorry, Chloe. For everything. For not listening. For throwing you out when you needed me the most.”
Chloe squeezed his hand. “You made it right, Dad. You brought him justice. You saved us today.”
