Chapter 6 - The Setup

Arthur’s mind raced. He was a mechanic, a man used to fixing broken things, not a fighter. But as he looked at the gun in Vance’s hand, all he saw was Leo’s face. He wasn't going to let this monster destroy his family twice.
Arthur tightened his grip on the crowbar in his right hand. “You want the box, Vance? Come and get it.”
With a sudden, violent swing, Arthur hurled the heavy lockbox directly at Vance’s face. The yard director ducked, the box smashing into the guard beside him. In the fraction of a second that Vance was distracted, Arthur charged.
He didn't run toward the door; he ran toward the rusted structural support beam of the condemned building. He swung the crowbar with all his might, smashing it into the decaying wood and rusted metal holding up the ceiling above the entrance.
The building groaned.

Vance raised his gun and fired. The bullet grazed Arthur’s shoulder, sending a searing shockwave of pain down his arm. But the damage to the structure was done. The ceiling above the doorway violently collapsed, dropping a ton of concrete, drywall, and steel rebar squarely onto Vance and his men, trapping them in a cloud of choking dust.
Arthur didn't wait to see if they were dead. Clutching his bleeding shoulder, he grabbed the fallen lockbox, kicked open a side window, and scrambled out into the rainy afternoon. He had to get home.
